The painting you see here (Wonder) came forth after I read two great books about the universe and cosmology by the same author.
The books are Hidden Heart of the Cosmos, by Brian Thomas Swimme and Journey of the Universe, by Brian Thomas Swimme and Mary Evelyn Tucker.
What Is The Cosmos?
So what is the cosmos? What is cosmology? What I learned is that the cosmos refers to the universe seen as a well-ordered whole and cosmology is a branch of astronomy involving the origin of the universe. And then there is evolutionary cosmology and that is the history of the universe. I was reading both of these books simultaneously so it all seemed intertwined.
What I discovered is that our universe began as a tiny speck that has unfolded over 3.7 billions of years. Where did that tiny speck come from? No answer for that yet. Contemporary science tells us that the universe is not just a place it’s a story, the story of us – we are made of stardust.

Elegance of Expansion
From the beginning there has been tremendous energy and power, which cause continual expansion and contraction. Does this expansion and contraction relate to the movement of our breath? Perhaps we are mirroring the dynamics of the universe. Contemporary science has discovered that our universe is expanding at just the perfect rate for life to emerge. If it had been even one millionth of a percent slower the universe would have imploded. If it had expanded even one millionth of a percent it would have turned to dust. Yikes, that’s amazing!
Since I was reading both of these books simultaneously the information overlapped.
It is such a challenge to comprehend because it’s a puzzle, a mystery and an enigma and new discoveries continually give us never-ending information. I am completely in awe that I am a tiny part of this unfolding journey.
